Current digital technology in particular smartphones, have transformed many aspects of our lives and society, including the way people seek out and establish longterm romantic and sexual relationships. In 2005, the total amount of the population that engaged in online dating activity was under 5%, in 2015 that number went up to 15%, as of 2019 a full 1/3 of the US population have engaged in online dating experiences with the use of online dating websites or mobile apps. As internet and smartphone technology becomes more advanced, and many more people gain access to highspeed internet and smartphones, that number is set to increase dramatically. What are the ramifications of such a massive increase in online dating? And is our society prepared to deal with it.
